Setting Up UA LUNA for Beginners, Step by Step

By Nick Iden

Getting started with a new DAW is a special kind of overwhelming. Menus everywhere, nothing where your old DAW kept it, and a manual you'll never read. LUNA is no exception, but it's worth the climb, so here's the walkthrough I wish someone had handed me: downloading it, setting it up, and recording your first track without the headache.

Getting it installed

Step one is UA Connect, that's where LUNA lives. Install it there, let it sort out your plugins, and don't skip the part where you tell it about your audio interface. An interface that's wrong at the driver level will haunt every session you open, so get the I/O setup right once and thank yourself forever.

Your first session

Once you're in, it's the usual suspects: edit window for arranging, mix window for balancing, and workflow modes to switch between how LUNA behaves. Arm a track, check your input monitoring so you can actually hear yourself, set your tempo and click, and you're recording. That's 90% of what a first session needs to be.

The stuff that saves you time later

Two things worth learning early: how LUNA manages plugins (so you're not hunting for them mid-session), and the AI helpers that came in with the 1.9 updates, like automatic track naming and voice control. Small stuff, but it's the difference between fighting the software and forgetting it's there.

Works on Mac or PC, and the whole thing is free to start. Watch the full step-by-step below and get your first session up today.
